22′ Lazio are playing some lovely stuff, exchanging quick, sharp passes with incisive off-the-ball movement and they look like carving Milan open every time they go forward.

20′ Calhanoglu fires the free-kick off the wall and behind for a corner, and the resulting delivery is flicked on to Mandzukic at the far post, but he’s deemed to have handled the ball and the whistle goes for a Lazio free-kick.

19′ Milan work a slick move and Hernandez bursts through the centre, getting forward from left-back, but Acerbi scythes him down and picks up a yellow card.

16′ Milan appear to have finally stemmed the tide of Lazio attacks and are enjoying a brief spell of possession of their own now.

14′ Immobile gets down the left and this time has a go of his own, lashing left-footed across goal from inside the box, but it comes back out off a defender.

12′ OVER! Lulic’s cross from the right is inadvertently headed straight into the path of Correa in the centre of the box and he volleys into the ground, but it bounces too high and lands on the roof of the net!

10′ Pioli is shaking his head on the sidelines. He can’t believe how poor his team have been so far. Outside of the chance they were gifted in the first minute, they’ve been completely dominated.

8′ Milan are really struggling to get into the game. Lazio attack once again, with Immobile causing all sorts of problems with his link play, but Luis Alberto’s effort from the left side of the area is blocked away!

6′ Lazio are threatening with every attack at the moment. Immobile is the focal point again as Milinkovic-Savic surges forward from midfield and goes for goal from just inside the box, but he gets under it and sends his effort over the bar.

4′ SAVE! A Lazio free-kick delivered from the right deflects into the path of Immobile, unmarked in the middle. The striker turns and tries to fire home, but Donnarumma somehow gets down to deny him!

2′ Immobile’s one-touch pass in behind for Correa carved the Milan defence apart – the visitors were all over the place and paid the price for their disorganisation.

2′ GOAL!!! LAZIO ARE IN FRONT ALREADY!!! Bennacer’s loose touch is pounced on by Correa, who plays a sharp give-and-go with Immobile and finds himself in behind the Milan defence and one-on-one with Donnarumma. The Lazio forward takes the ball around the goalkeeper and taps into an empty net! It’s 1-0 to Lazio!

1′ SAVE! Marusic gives the ball away within the first 10 seconds and Milan look to capitalise, with Calhanoglu playing a quick one-two with Mandzukic before striking towards the bottom-left corner from the edge of the box, but Reina gets down to deny him!

1′ We’re underway in Rome!

Milan coach Stefano Pioli has won both of his last two Serie A games against former club Lazio, as many wins as  he managed in his 13 previous clashes against this opponent in the competition (D4 L7).

Lazio have won each of their last nine home games in the top-flight; they could win 10 such games at home in a row for the third time in their Serie A history, having done so in 1937 and 1974.

Meanwhile, Milan manager Stefano Pioli makes three alterations following his team’s disappointing 2-1 defeat against Sassuolo in their last game. Dalot, Meite and Leao are benched, with Hernandez, Bennacer and Mandzukic replacing them in the starting line-up. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is unavailable through injury.

Lazio boss Simone Inzaghi – who returns to the dugout for the first time after recovering from Covid-19 – makes just one change after his side were beaten 5-2 by Napoli last time out. Fares drops to the bench, with Lulic replacing him at left wing-back. Defender Luiz Felipe remains out as he continues to work his way back following ankle surgery, while midfielder Gonzalo Escalante is also out with a muscular issue.

Milan substitutes: Diogo Dalot, Pierre Kalulu Kyatengwa, Rafael Leao, Ciprian Tatarusanu, Brahim Diaz, Rade Krunic, Sandro Tonali, Samu Castillejo, Soualiho Meite, Jens Hauge, Alessio Romagnoli, Matteo Gabbia.

Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Gianluigi Donnarumma; Davide Calabria, Simon Kjaer, Fikayo Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Ismael Bennacer, Franck Kessie; Alexis Saelemaekers, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ante Rebic; Mario Mandzukic.

Lazio and Milan are both involved in a fierce battle for Champions League qualification next season, with just two points separating the four clubs behind league leaders Inter. Lazio are eight points off the pace in sixth, but have two games in hand on all the teams above them apart from tonight’s opponents Milan, who would move clear of the pack and into second with a victory.
