Sherlock Holmes

This list would be missing a very important ingredient if it didn’t have this movie in it. Robert Downey Jr plays the bizarre detective in this adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s work. Along with his partner, Dr. Watson (Jude Law) solves the most frivolous of cases in the streets of England.

It’s a two-part movie; Sherlock Holmes which was released in 2009 and Sherlock Holmes; A Game Of Shadows released in 2011. There were rumors of a third part but its production and release have been postponed over and over again

P.S: There’s a British BBC series also titled Sherlock Holmes. The detective character is also played by another Marvel superhero actor.

Murder On the Orient Express

Another Novel based movie, this one written by Agatha Christie and published on the 1st of January 1934. Pretty old right nevertheless, engrossing.

A renowned detective is intentionally put on a train to solve a murder so it looks perfect and the wrong person is apprehended for the murder. Detective Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) is recruited to solve a fascinating murder case on a train halfway around the world.

Note; When searching for this movie, there are two varieties. There’s the one released in 1974 and an earlier one released in 2017.
If you must choose, see the one from 2017 because it’s a bit more current.

Knives Out

Everyone believes Chris Evans can only be adorable, charming, superb, and so on when in character. After seeing this movie, I saw the mesmerizing actor in a different maniacal light for the first time.

The mysterious death of a wealthy mystery novelist coincides with his family get-together. Detective Blanc (Daniel Craig) believes this is not just a mere coincidence set that the wealthy Novelist made some rash decisions regarding his family.

The plot in this one is all would up and it gets even more knotted when you discover a character in this movie has a health condition that makes one vomit at the thought of lying. A detective movie with a character who can’t lie; interestingly fickle.

The best ingredient for an elusive detective movie is a serial killer and this movie has got an extraordinary serial killer. A serial killer who has got a thing with sins and the number seven.

When a serial killer begins to stack bodies, murdering them based on the seven deadly sins, It’s up to two detectives; one who’s looking to retire and one who just moved into the city and is looking to bag his first big case.

Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt are police detectives constantly on the tails of an old testament Bible-inspired killer psychopath. It’s pretty old, released in 1995 nonetheless it’s one of the best detective movies ever, you don’t want to miss this one.


This movie is based on true life events about a mysterious evasive and very bold serial murderer. He gave the citizens of the United States specifically the people of San Francisco nightmares in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Robert Graysmith (Jake Gyllenheal), a cartoonist is obsessed with the killings of the Zodiac. He uses his puzzle-solving skills to assist Paul Avery (Robert Downey Jr.) and Dave Toschi (Mark Ruffalo) to find the true identity of the Zodiac killer.

The movie explains why the Zodiac killer was one of America’s longest-standing unsolved serial killer cases. This David Fincher’s masterpiece makes it possible for newer generations to understand why this particular serial killer case garnered so much popularity over the years.

Since the appearance of The Zodiac in the late 1960s there have been a lot of suspects not until 2021 when a group of detectives traced it all to one Gary Francis Poste who died in 2018.
